Science has argued for the existence of a nomadic gene, but throughout history, human beings have moved about for a host of different reasons. From tracking animals to conflict to the promise of opportunity, we are fueled to move by different motivations and passions.
For a long time, I sought the geographical cure as a means of finding something that fit, and also to address a long history of disordered eating and depression. The world is full of beautiful things, ideas that are true and good and substantial, but it is also host to a plague of social ills and environmental degradation. My wanderings have left me with a solid sense of what is possible when human beings act in cooperation with their environment and engage in mutual aid with one another, and it is the furthering of these micro-realities, the attainment of this vision that I work towards. They’ve also given me an interesting perspective on myself, and with each passing day, I understand myself, my potential and my relationship with the greater world more and more. Being actively kind to others has never been a problem, but I’ve learned to take being kind to myself more seriously.
Building community, through empathy and true relationships with our neighbors and the land on which we live is my focus these days, and what better way to bring people together than through conversation and food? I am personally committed to relying less and less on corporations and faraway locales for my sustenance, and I want to find ways to make this more accessible and attainable for others. I believe in the power of potlucks and DIY projects; I want to empower people to realize their own amazing potential while understanding the idea of interdependence with others. And I want to cook. Knead bread, bake cupcakes and harvest my salad greens from my own backyard. I want to nourish myself and those I love. Join me as I share recipes from around the nation and around the world, and hopefully push forth the ever-blossoming local, seasonal and underground food movements into the mainstream.
To health, understanding and self-realization,
Rachael

I love your message! “I want to empower people to realize their own amazing potential while understanding the idea of interdependence with others.” I feel the same way. I think a lot of times people underestimate themselves and it can be frustrating sometimes. But I’ve learned that the best thing to do is live your life the way you do, and people will see the inner-light that shines from inside out. That makes you intriguing
I’m so glad that I stumbled upon your blog, Rachael! And I’m definitely looking forward to following you on your journey.
